More details will follow regarding specific times for each age group. You can refer to the following for more information. We look forward to seeing many new faces from the incoming freshman class.

  • All players are subject to the open tryout each year in August.
    • Planned tryout dates for the 2018-2019 season are:
      • 2022 - Saturday, August 18 from 8-12 and Sunday, August 19 from 8-10:30
      • 2021 - Saturday, August 18 from 2-5

  • Initial selection to the CLC freshman class will be performed using a blind tryout method.  Following day one of the freshman tryout, a preliminary cut will be made, and the top players will be invited back to day two for final selection.
  • Selection to the CLC Sophomore and Junior class will be based upon an annual tryout as well as prior performance, and subjective considerations by the coaches and Dir. of Lacrosse..
  • Fall team placement (Blue and Orange) will take place following one to two team formation practices (by approximately September 15, 2018)
  • Decisions regarding player placement will be made by CLC team coaches and the Dir. of Lacrosse.
  • Sophomore and Junior players in good standing are not automatically retained, but will be given the benefit of the doubt in cases of close evaluation.
  • Player placement on Blue and Orange teams will be reassessed each year during the first two weeks of summer practices, and players may be reassigned by the Dir. of Lacrosse.
  • Target roster size is 20 - 21
  • Annual Dues are $2,580. Membership dues cover all tournament entry, specific speed, strength and agility training, specialty clinics, play days, off-season clinics and other activities. Member families are responsible for their own travel, food, gas, uniform purchase (not required every year), equipment and non-essential items.
  • Upon accepting her spot in the Club, 1st half membership dues are due immediately and are non-refundable. The remainder can be paid in a 2nd installment or over 5 monthly installments which conclude on January 15th of the new year
  • Information regarding all Capital Lacrosse Club policies can be found here <Policy Page>

Observations to Note:

  • Open tryouts for all classes will mean that all returning players will not be guaranteed a roster slot following tryouts, but current CLC members in good standing are given the benefit of the doubt in close evaluations.
  • Freshman roster cuts will happen over two days instead of one.  Typically, CLC has 90-100 players tryout for each freshman class.  We envision making a first cut down to 50-60 players and then a final cut down to 40-42 players.  This will take place over two consecutive days and be fully blind throughout.
  • CLC is open to players from all schools and previous programs. For the 2017/2018 year we have members from 34 different high schools (17 public, 17 private) spanning more than 5,300 square miles of territory throughout Virginia, the District and Maryland.

The full policy is available on the CLC website <LINK>. The Board and Staff have invested considerable time and deliberation in establishing these policies to assure that all players are given a fair opportunity to compete at the highest level regardless their school, background or prior club experience. We constantly strive to attract the very best athletes and teammates from the entire DC, MD, VA region to be members of the Club. Any questions regarding this policy can be directed to the Executive Director, Director of Lacrosse or Club President.

Thank you,

Rich Hayden
2017/2018 CLC Board President
