Frequently Asked Questions
  • What level of participation is expected of each family?

In addition to paying the yearly club fees and submitting all necessary forms and waivers in a timely fashion, it is expected that each family will assist at tournaments and club functions.  Assistance may include helping with tent set-up and take-down, providing food and drink as requested at each function, and assisting with site clean-up.

  •  How much does participation in the club cost? Is financial aid available?

For the 2008-2009 season, the total fee per player was $1300, payable in two installments.  The annual fee covers all practice, tournament and coaches’ fees.  Additional costs which were not covered in the annual fee included transportation, hotel and meal costs.  Financial aid is available and inquiries may be directed to the board president.

  •  When and where are practices held?

During the months of September through November, and again in late May through early July, practices are generally held on Sunday afternoons.  After school dismisses for the summer, additional weekday evening practices may be held.  Practices are usually held in the Alexandria area.  However, occasionally teams may practice in other locations including close-in Fairfax and Montgomery County areas.

  •  When and where are tournaments?

Tournaments are scheduled throughout the fall and summer.  Some of the tournaments are in the local Washington-Baltimore area.  Several regional tournaments require travel and an overnight stay.  Currently, the regional locations include tournaments in the Greater Philadelphia area.  To obtain a current tournament schedule, check out the "Tournaments" section of our website.

  •  When does the season start?

After tryouts in August, practices will begin with the chosen teams in early September.  There are three to four fall weekend tournaments which are typically scheduled  in late September  through early November.

  • Will each player have sufficient playing time to showcase her skills?

Team rosters are kept small in order to allow each player the opportunity to showcase her skills.  The 2010 and 1011 teams have 16 to 17 field players and 2 goalies; the 2012 teams have 18 field players and 2 goalies.  In all game and tournament situations, playing time is at the discretion of the individual coaches.

  •  What is the level of commitment required?

It is expected that each player will attend ALL practices, tournaments and team functions.  If a player is unable to make this commitment, she may jeopardize her participation in the Club and position on the team.

  •   What about  summer programs and family vacations?

Until the completion of the summer tournament season,  it is expected that players will fully participate in all scheduled events.  For planning purposes, the club generally completes the summer season at the end of the All-Star Express Tournament.  The All-Star Express is typically the middle weekend in July.  Tryouts for the following year are usually held the last weekend in August.

  •  What assistance with the college recruitment process does the club provide to the individual player and her family?

Coaches assist juniors in a variety of ways, including responding to and contacting college coaches on behalf of players, completing recruiting forms, etc. and acting as a guide through the recruiting process.  Information sessions regarding college recruitment are held for the sophomore  and freshman players and their parents.

  • What happens if my daughter is injured and cannot play for a significant portion of the season?

The player’s status would be determined by her coaches, and, if needed, by the board.
